ABOUT THE NETWORK
The Canadian Coalition for Reimagining Church, Land, and Community aims to spark dialogue around church properties, encouraging churches and denominations to be theologically reflective and proactively manage the land and buildings in their stewardship.
In Spring 2023, thirty practitioners—including not-for-profit developers, property stewards, theologians, urban planners, architects, and church leaders—gathered at Crieff Hills Retreat Center in Ontario. This two-day event identified five key priorities:
- Association: Advocating for the coalition’s formation.
- Theology: Seeking deeper theological foundations.
- Indigenous-Settler Relations: Engaging Adrian Jacobs and other elders to integrate this perspective.
- Research: Supporting research and curriculum projects.
- Gatherings: Committing to regular in-person meetings.
To advance these priorities, CityGate, alongside David Kupp, organized Vancouver 2024, attracting 160 attendees.
Looking Ahead
Plans are underway for our next annual gathering at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, in May 2025, with hopes to meet in or near Halifax in 2026.
